Hyper-V Server

Most applications run perfectly fine when set up in the Fresh Start machine with DaDesktop (DD). However, a couple of applications behave unexpectedly after cloning, requiring a few additional steps to function normally.

Fresh Start Fix Notes

  1. Keep in mind this is a general guide for getting this application working properly within Fresh Start. The steps might differ depending on your particular configuration.

  2. Summary - Fix on Fresh Start as below. Hyper-V runs into duplicate MAC address issues on the External switch after cloning from the FreshStart machine. The workaround is to select the second pre-configured Intel network connection or remove the external switch beforehand, as I’ll explain in detail below).

     

Fix process

1. Here’s the Hyper-V Manager interface. Right-click to open the Virtual Switch Manager dialog box.

2. In the Virtual Switch Manager window shown below, highlight the ‘External’ switch, then pick the Intel Pro /1000 network adapter listed. Note: This option only appears when using newer Windows 10 templates, v71 and higher. Click OK, save your configuration if needed, and close Hyper-V Manager.

3. Proceed with the FreshStart machine configuration as needed. Once everything is set, shut down the machine from inside the VM and wait until it fully stops. Then clone the FreshStart machine to the Trainer and Participant machines accordingly.

After these steps, the Hyper-V server should work correctly on the Trainer and Participant machines. Without this adjustment, participants might see each other’s machines instead of their own, due to duplicate MAC addresses created on the external network card during cloning duplicate mac addresses with the External switch when cloned from the FreshStart machine.
